Baby skin is different than adult skin in structure, function and composition.

The skin barrier (the most basic skin function) is not fully developed in babies or infants, due to their having substantially less lipids than adults. During the past few decades, the increase of skin allergies (e.g. atopic dermatitis) in babies and infants has increased dramatically. This has been frequently attributed to the use of harsh and incompatible skincare products. Harsh chemicals and the use of mainstream formulations can easily affect the delicate infant skin barrier, potentially allowing easy penetration of irritants, allergens and the propensity for microbial infections.

Numerous published studies have shown that our skin is porous and absorbs what we use on it. Our skin is the largest organ of our body. What we use on our skin makes its way into our body, our blood, and our lymphatic system.

Babies and infants are particularly sensitive to chemicals, as their organs are still developing.

Plastic bottles can leach hormone-disrupting chemicals into the liquids (skincare) which they are storing, when the product sits around for a long time or if exposed to heat. Effective when treating nappy rash, cradle cap, insect bites, scrapes, chicken pox, minor rashes and acidic teething rash. Always wash hands prior to use to avoid product contamination.

Kokum & Chamomile Bathtime Wash

This Botanical Bath Wash is perfect for babies and infants. Its gentle formula keeps the skin smooth and protected. Baby’s compromised skin barrier allows allergens, irritants and other unwanted agents to penetrate the skin, leading to aggravation of symptoms. Exposure over time, especially in the nappy region, and skin folds, leads to critical skin barrier breakdown, causing discomfort, irritation and infection. Surmanti Botanical Bath Wash also helps to keep baby’s delicate skin free of unwanted irritants, bodily fluids, faecal enzymes and microbial pathogens. This all-natural soap alternative is not a “tear-free” formula, so please be careful not to get it into baby’s eyes.
